I’ve always been one to toy around with cameras and gear. Over the last few years, I’ve had a Canon T3i, Canon G7X Mark II, Canon 5d Mark III, DJI Phantom 4, DJI Mavic Pro, a couple of GoPros, iPhone lenses, and more. To be clear, I didn’t have all of that at the same time as I tend to play the buy/sell/trade game with them.
There are things I liked about almost all of them, but I never could find something that worked perfectly for me. After going through all of that, I made a list of things I wanted from a camera.
- Interchangeable lenses
- As compact as possible
- High-Quality 4K Video Recording
- 120fps 1080p Video Recording (for slow motion)
- Good reviews
- External mic capabilities
- Excellent autofocus
After making that list, referencing my experience with the listed cameras, and reading an insane amount of reviews, I finally decided on a kit that I think checks off every item.
Here’s what I went with:
- Sony a6500 body
- Sony 18-105mm f/4 lens
- Sony 35mm f/1.8 lens
- Joby Gorillapod with Ballhead
- Variable Density Filter
- Memory Card
I’d like to eventually add a couple more lenses, but I exhausted my budget on the above (I did save money by buying used). If you have any suggestions about my kit, let me know on Twitter.
