Shortcuts: Flying Toggle
In a few days, my family will be traveling to Hawaii. By the time we return, Brigsby will have been on 26 flights (he’s 26 months old). We have a lot of travel hacks we’ve developed over the years, but I thought I’d share a simple one I made using Apple’s Shortcuts app. By simply activating the shortcut (best used in the Shortcuts widget), you’ll be asked if you’re taking off or landing.
Depending on your answer, the appropariate settings for Cellular Data, WiFi, Low Power Mode, Do Not Disturb, and Brightness will be activated. Additionally, you’ll get a quick alert summarizing what the shortcut just did and informing you of your current battery life. Simple as that.
What about airplane mode? A while back, we had a situation that nearly made us lose an iPhone. In short, we couldn’t ping the phone in anyway (with Apple Watch, Siri, or Find my iPhone) because it was in airplane mode. The flight attendants and pilots even worked with us until everything was resolved. As one pilot told us, “You put your phone in airplane mode? I don’t even do that, and I’m flying the plane.” Enough said. No airplane mode.
